Vaccinations

Vaccinations

Why do we have to vaccinate our pets? Is it really necessary? So often?…. Let us explain it.

Schema – according to Small Animal Veterinary Association
DOGS:
We share vaccination in two groups:
1. Core vaccines – very important
– Canine distemper
– Parvovirus
– Hepatitis
2. Non-core vaccines – facultative
– Parainfluenza
– Bordetella bronchoseptica
– Leptospirosis
CATS:
1. Core vaccines – very important
– panleukopenia
– calicivirus
– herpesvirus
– rabies (when its not an indoor cat)
2. Non- core vaccines – facultative
– Feline Leukemia

Small dogs and cats are protected against some diseases by maternal antibodies. Between 8-12 week the level of maternal antibodies titers decline. And this is the first moment when a vaccination can be effective. Some puppies have high titer of maternal antibodies very long- even till the 12th week of life. Because of that, it is very important to vaccinate your little dog 2-3 times- last vaccination not before his/her 14th week of life.
Vaccination scheme- dog:
1. vaccination 8-9 week of life
2. vaccination 11-12 week of life
3. vaccination 14-16 week of life
*In case of puppy from animal shelter or other places with many animals- we can start vaccinating 2-3 weeks earlier.
4. vaccination one year after first vaccination
5. every 3 years!
Rabies disease – in Poland: once a year/ first vaccination in age of 3 months (max 4months)
Non-core vaccines – ask your Vet 🙂

LAB TESTS:
• blood tests
• urine analysis
• fecal examination
• snap-tests
• microscopic examinations
The most of the tests we make in our clinic. Some very specific- like hormones, histopathology, DNA tests) we pass to veterinary lab.
Its very important to check your pets blood and urine. We should repeat this test at least once a year, by dogs and cats over 6 years old.
Results will tell us some useful information about: kidneys, liver, heart, pancreas etc. Before we collect blood from your pet- please do not give him/ her food for 8-12 hours.
