Laboratory Tests
Blood tests in animals; We do research in dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits. Laboratory Tests are one of the most important additional treatments. At the i-Vet Clinic we perform:
- Biochemical research
- Morphology
- Hormone testing
- Genetic testing,
- Cassette tests and many other services
In most cases, we have the same results on the same day. Diagnosis is crucial for us, based on the morphological study we can determine the correct size, blood cell shape and detect anemia. We evaluate hand-smeared blood – this allows finding parasites and microorganisms (eg Dirofilaria, Babesia canis, Haemobartonella) they are responsible for severe Babesiosis and Dirofilarioses.
Biochemical examination allows to evaluate the function of kidney, liver, acid and alkaline balance, general metabolism. This test is needed to assess the health of our dog, cat, rodent or rabbit. The blood of a dog, cat, ferret, rabbit is carried out every day during the opening hours of the clinic, including weekends.
How often should animals be tested?
Dog – from 6 years old, once a year, after 9 years – every 7-8 months
Cat – from 7 years old, once a year, after 10 years – every 6 months
Why so often?
As the year of our pupil is much longer than our year 😉 Unfortunately, they are aging much faster than us
How to prepare an animal for testing?
Young animals (<4 years old) – 8 hours before the test (they can drink water)
Animals> 4 years of age – 12 hours of hunger (they can drink water)
What to keep in mind?
Animal laboratories have specially calibrated machines and qualified personnel. Reference values are the norms adopted for each species (averaged) – therefore the best reference is the results of blood tests of our pet are previous results – if the animal already has blood tests that were done in another clinic, please take them with you. Each machine has its own reference values, the results of different laboratories may differ.
Laboratory tests we offer:
- Blood tests
- Cassette tests (rapid ELISA tests)
- Microscopic examination
- Urine test
- Stool examination
Most of the tests we perform on site in the clinic, more specialized (hormone levels, DNA tests, cytological tests, histopathology) are transferred to the veterinary laboratories of Idexx, Vetlab, LabVet.
How to prepare our pupil for testing?
Hormonal testing – please contact us by phone for details – depending on the type of examination, specific patient preparation is required
Urine test – the most important thing is to be fresh! He should get to our clinic within 2 hours
Fecal examination – after picking up in the fridge – maybe 2-3 days “wait” before we go to the test
Remember! Make an appointment to visit!
